Preston bus station: What do you reckon?
ROUTE Preston asked the Preston public what they thought of the bus station.
Out of 50 people who were asked, 86% didn’t think it should be knocked down, while 14% thought it should be.
Kelly Sawyer, a shop assistant from Preston, who uses the bus station every day said: “For me, the bus station is really important. It needs an upgrade, but I don’t think it should be knocked down.”
Gavin Bird, 28, from Plunginton, said: “It would be odd if it wasn’t here any longer. It’s become quite an iconic part of Preston, so it’d be sad if it was to go.”
Kieran Martin, a 32-year-old HGV mechanic, said: “Public transport is becoming less popular as it is, so getting rid of the bus station would just deter people even more.”
Tanya Braithwaite, a 24-year-old nurse, said: “Once you’ve been to the station a few times, you learn to love it.”
Edith Rogers, 76, from Fulwood, said: “A lot of people forget how important the service bus runs are for older people. The bus station does need updating, but demolishing it is uncalled for.”
Rob Murdoch, an apprentice builder from Penwortham, said: “I don’t get what all the fuss is about. Yeah, it’s useful, but if it was knocked down, another would be rebuilt.”
Marie Swann, a hairdresser from Preston, said: “The whole place is off putting. It feels unsafe and un-clean. If it was knocked down, I wouldn’t be bothered. if anything, I’d be quite happy about it.”
