Commuters complaints
AS a nation, we’re renowned for being polite moaners. We’ll get irritated, we’ll huff and puff and swear in our head, but we don’t often voice what’s annoying us. Commuting can be a suffocating experience at the best of times, but what gets us the most riled about fellow train travellers? Route Preston found out.
Alex Burrow, a 25-year-old mechanic from Lancaster said: “I can’t stand it when people talk loud on their phones. Everyone else can literally hear the whole conversation. Completely cringworthy.”
Sara Williams, a secretary from Preston said: “People who sit beside you and really smell. It always makes me feel self-conscious, like other people think it’s me!”
Thomas Orr, an apprentice from Manchester, said: “Drunken people are the worst. I feel more intimidated by drunk women, probably because I’m a 20-year-old man!”
Grahame Johnston, a 54-year-old businessman said: “As I get the train every day, there are quite a lot of things that irritate me. One that really winds me up though is when someone sits beside you and falls asleep. I never want to wake them at my stop in case they lash out in their slumber.”
Amy Jacobs, a student from Kendal said: “The couples who don’t think twice about canoodling in the middle of the train make my stomach churn. No over the top PDA’s [public display of affection] thank you.”
Carol-Ann Weymouth, a 36-year-old small business owner said: “The rude ones annoy me the most. It’s always good to remember your P’s and Q’s.”
